South Korean navy patrol plane crashes, four dead

A South Korean maritime patrol aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff near a military base in Pohang on Thursday, killing all four crew members aboard.

The navy said the P-3 plane went down about six minutes after leaving the airfield at 1:43 p.m. during a training mission.

Videos aired on YTN television showed the aircraft banking at low altitude before a plume of smoke and fire appeared after it crashed.

The navy confirmed the remains of the crew members have been recovered and no civilians were injured in the incident.

Following the crash, the navy has suspended operations of the P-3 aircraft and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
