South Korea calls for talks with North to formally end Korean War
The Korean War ended in 1953 with an armistice rather than a peace treaty, leaving the two countries technically still at war. Although major fighting stopped, tensions have continued along the heavily guarded DMZ, with the two sides repeatedly accusing each other of provocations.
