Russell Brand has been hit with two new criminal charges, including one count of rape, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
The police said the Crown Prosecution Service has approved the additional charges, which also include a count of sexual assault linked to two other women.
The 50-year-old actor, comedian, and broadcaster had already pleaded not guilty to five offences involving four women. These earlier charges include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault.
Brand is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 20 January 2026 over the latest allegations.
The new rape charge is reported to have occurred between 7 February 2009 and 1 March 2009, involving one woman. The sexual assault accusation is alleged to have taken place between 31 August 2009 and 1 December 2009, concerning a different woman.
His trial for the five previous charges is set for 16 June 2026 at Southwark Crown Court. These offences allegedly happened between 1999 and 2005 in central London and Bournemouth.
According to the police, Brand is accused of raping a woman in Bournemouth in 1999 and indecently assaulting another in Westminster in 2001. Other charges include sexual assault in Westminster between 2004 and 2005, and alleged oral rape and sexual assault of a fourth woman in 2004, also in Westminster.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi of the Metropolitan Police stated the women involved are receiving support from officers trained to assist victims of sexual offences.
The investigation began after reports from the Sunday Times, the Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches in September 2023 brought the allegations to light.
