Samia Suluhu reshuffles key ministries to boost efficiency and services

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced a broad Cabinet reshuffle aimed at improving government performance and ensuring more efficient public service delivery following her October 29 election victory.

The new appointments, revealed on Monday during a televised State House address in Chamwino, highlight her focus on youth participation, effective management, and accelerated national development.

Several ministries under the President’s Office have been reorganized to streamline decision-making. Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete has been named Minister for Public Service Management and Good Governance, with Regina Ndege Qwaray serving as deputy.

Kitila Mkumbo now leads the Office for Planning and Investment, supported by Pius Steven Chaya.

In the Vice-President’s office, Hamad Yusuph Masauni takes charge of the Union and Environment docket, with Festo John Ndugange assisting him as deputy.

The Prime Minister’s office also experienced notable changes, with William Lukuvi overseeing Policy, Parliament, Coordination, and Persons with Disabilities, assisted by Ummy Ndeliananga.

Labour and employment issues are now handled by Clemence Sango, with Rahma Kisuo as deputy. Prof. Riziki Silas Shemdoe heads Regional Administration and Local Government, while education and health responsibilities under this docket have been separated, with Ruben Kwagilwa and Jafar Rajab Seif taking charge of their respective areas.

Finance affairs are led by Khamis Mussa Omar, and Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has been appointed Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation minister.

Other key ministers include Boniface Simbachawene at Home Affairs, Godfrey Chongolo at Agriculture, Juma Aweso at Water, Raymond Nyasaho at Defence and National Service, Hamisi Abdallah Ulega at Works, Makame Mbarawa at Transport, and Judith Kapinga at Industry and Trade.

Health and social sectors saw significant changes. Mohammed Mchengerwa now heads Health, Prof. Adolf Mkenda manages Education, Science, and Technology, while Dorothy Gwajima oversees Community Development, Gender, and Special Groups. Leonard Akwilapo has been appointed Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development minister, and Dr. Ashatu Kijaji will manage Natural Resources and Tourism. Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi is responsible for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, assisted by deputies Khamis Mwinjuma and Paul Makonda.

Additional appointments include Bashiru Ally Kakurwa at Livestock and Fisheries, Anthony Mavunde at Minerals, Deogratus Ndejembi at Energy, and Juma Zuberi Omera at Constitutional and Legal Affairs.

The extensive reshuffle reflects President Samia’s drive to strengthen governance, improve service delivery, and enhance development across all sectors of Tanzania.
