KAA noted that operations at the busy airport remain normal and reassured the public of its continued commitment to the safety, security, and efficiency of airport operations.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has revealed that all 50 passengers and crew aboard an aircraft that veered off Taxiway Echo at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday, December 29, 2025, are safe and accounted for.

No cause was given for the aircraft veering off the taxiway.

In a statement, KAA said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon shortly after the aircraft landed at JKIA, Nairobi, from Elwak Airstrip in Mandera.

It added that airport emergency response teams were activated in line with established procedures.

The Authority said it is working with relevant agencies to ensure the safe removal of the aircraft.

“All passengers and crew were safely accounted for,” said KAA Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamud Gedi.

KAA noted that operations at the busy airport remain normal and reassured the public of its continued commitment to the safety, security, and efficiency of airport operations.

Cases of aircraft veering off taxiways at JKIA are uncommon but are usually caused by factors such as strong winds, mechanical issues, or runway congestion, often leading to temporary closures.

While not routine, such incidents highlight the challenges faced at busy airports like JKIA, with solutions focused on swift recovery.
