The Kenya Parliament Netball Team boosted its top medal prospects after securing a 21–16 win over Burundi at the Makerere University Indoor Arena in Kampala.
Kenya, which lost its opening East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games match to Uganda last week, recovered strongly despite a slow start.
Burundi won the first quarter 6–4 after Kenya missed several scoring chances.
However, Kenya quickly adjusted its play and dominated the remaining quarters. The team took the second quarter 12–7, won the third 15–13, and sealed the match with a strong 21–6 finish in the final quarter. Each quarter lasted 15 minutes.
Following last week’s 72–08 loss to Uganda, Team Captain Beatrice Adagala acknowledged that they were edged out by a better team, but vowed to improve.
She also attributed the earlier poor performance to fatigue, noting that several players had participated in a basketball match before the netball game.
The players included Catherine Omanyo, Linet Toto, Rael Kasiwai, Irene Mayaka, Esther Passaris, and Veronica Maina.
After the victory over Burundi, Adagala expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress.
“I am happy with our performance so far. We promised that we will win our next match and we have just done that. We will do everything in our power to continue the winning streak,” she said.
Other members of the netball team include Vice Captain Senator Beth Syengo, Caroline Ngelechei, Pauline Lenkuris, Rebecca Tonkei, Mary Emase, Beatrice Kemei, and Kasim Umulkher.
