The examination confirmed that the bullet caused extensive trauma, including severe brain injury and a fractured spinal cord.

A postmortem report has revealed that 28-year-old Vincent Ayomo, who was fatally shot in Kitengela on Sunday,  February 15, 2026, died from a single gunshot wound to the left eye.

The examination confirmed that the bullet caused extensive trauma, including severe brain injury and a fractured spinal cord.

The autopsy, conducted on Thursday, showed that the nature of the injuries indicates that the shot was fired from very close range.

Speaking on behalf of the family, advocate Njanja Maina described the killing as deliberate.

“We still do not understand why he was killed. The findings of the pathologist confirm that he died as a result of a single gunshot wound that entered through his left eye. His brain was severely damaged, his spinal cord fractured, and other parts of his body sustained injuries from the impact. From the results of this postmortem examination, it is very clear that whoever shot him was close by; the magnitude of the injuries shows this was not a distant shot,” she said.

Maina criticized the use of live ammunition in public areas and questioned the role of security personnel in Vincent’s death.

“It is less than seven days after the killing of Sheryl, another innocent person, and we must ask whether it is necessary to use live bullets even in crowd control or arrests. The Kenya Police are supposed to serve the public, yet a young man like Vincent, barely 28 years old, was killed. This is unacceptable,” she said.

The advocate also highlighted the emotional and financial challenges faced by the family following the incident.

“Even before seeking justice, the family faces bills for repeated visits here, for preparation and transport of the body, and for other related costs. This is not fair and not acceptable. Right now, what we are calling for is accountability before justice is served,” she added.

Ayomo’s relatives said he was heading to buy spare parts for work at a garage on Old Namanga Road when he was shot just before 6:00 pm.

His wife, Khadija Riyami, described the moment of the tragedy outside the Nairobi Funeral Home.

“They told me that he was crossing the road, going for some spare parts and was shot in the process,” she recounted, holding on to relatives for support.

The environment in Kitengela had been tense earlier in the afternoon as a rally associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna turned chaotic.

Tear gas was deployed, and clashes between police and protesters escalated.

Ayomo’s family and colleagues emphasized that he was not involved in the demonstration. He had remained behind at the garage and intended to leave after completing his errands.
