Super Metro Limited has confirmed that one of its buses, registration KDK 060H, was involved in a fatal incident in Kitengela on the night of February 24, 2026, after boda boda riders alleged that a conductor pushed a passenger from the vehicle.
The bus, which was carrying 32 passengers to Nairobi CBD, is currently being held at Athi River Police Station, with the driver and conductor in police custody as investigations continue.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the public transport company said it was aware of reports concerning the incident that allegedly occurred at around 11 pm.
According to the company, the vehicle was “stopped by an irate mob of boda boda riders claiming that the conductor had pushed a passenger from the bus,” an allegation it said “came as a surprise to all on board.”
Super Metro noted that preliminary information indicates the incident resulted in a fatality.
“The vehicle is currently held at Athi River Police Station, driver and conductor are in police custody,” the statement read.
The company expressed condolences to the affected family, saying, “As a company, we are deeply saddened by the reported loss of life and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those who are affected.”
It added that the safety of its passengers, employees, and the wider community remains its top priority.
Super Metro said it is “cooperating fully with the law enforcement and National Transport and Safety Authority as they conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident,” noting that the matter remains under investigation.
In addition to working with authorities, the company has launched an internal review to determine whether any of its policies or procedures were implicated and to identify any necessary safety improvements.
It urged anyone with relevant information to contact law enforcement agencies, reiterating its commitment to “transparency, accountability, and safety of everyone who interacts with our services.”
The Tuesday night incident along the Kitengela–Namanga Highway left a 25-year-old Joseph Mureithi dead, with witnesses alleging he was pushed out of the moving vehicle less than a kilometre after boarding and fatally run over.
