In a statement released on November 13, 2025, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan accused Gachagua of fabricating allegations, including claims involving “close associates” of UDA Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku. Hassan said those claims were false and intended to mislead the public.
He said Gachagua’s actions were part of a broader attempt to distract attention from his own political failures. “Your diversionary offensive against the National Police Service and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission exposes the predictable floundering of a political personality whose career is collapsing under the weight of a publicly documented history of misdeeds,” the statement read.
The UDA official revisited Gachagua’s past controversies, accusing him of engaging in “political thuggery, looting, and the notorious plunder of a former Kenyan Head of State’s livestock,” which he said “remains a permanent emblem of your personal character.”
Hassan criticized Gachagua for claiming that his safety was under threat while campaigning in Mbeere North, describing the allegations as “absurd.” He noted the irony of Gachagua campaigning for a candidate from another party while attacking UDA leaders.
The statement went on to accuse the DCP leader of defrauding a potential Mbeere North parliamentary candidate by taking money under the pretense of issuing a party nomination certificate. “As you plan to set foot in Mbeere territory, prepare to refund every penny you swindled from their kinsmen. This is not political opposition; it is a demand for basic financial accountability,” the statement added.
Hassan reaffirmed that UDA’s candidate in Mbeere North, Leo Wamuthende, continues to enjoy strong support among residents, saying the party’s campaigns have been peaceful and free of violence. He cautioned against any efforts by Gachagua to stir unrest ahead of the by-election.
He further emphasized that UDA remains committed to democratic values, peace, and national development, insisting the party’s focus is on governance and progress, not personal disputes. Copies of the statement were shared with the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the National Intelligence Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
The exchange followed Gachagua’s letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, in which he raised concerns about alleged threats to his safety ahead of the Mbeere North by-election. In the letter, he pointed to what he called imminent violence, citing widely circulated videos on social media and demanding swift police action.
“Despite the evidence and information in your custody, the above persons have not been arraigned. We demand that ahead of the by-elections, the above persons must be arrested immediately, arraigned and charged under the penal code,” Gachagua stated.
He named Simon Njagi Njiru (alias Gikundo wa Gikundo), Josiah Kariuki Ngari (alias Mtetezi Puff), and Susan Nyaga as individuals allegedly behind the threats, claiming they were linked to Governor Mbarire and Cabinet Secretary Ruku, who previously served as Mbeere North MP.
