The Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of Johana Ng’eno in February 2026 after a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of five other individuals.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, has unveiled Vincent Kibet Rotich as the party’s flag bearer in the forthcoming Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election, setting the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in the constituency.

Speaking at the party headquarters during an endorsement event on Tuesday, Gachagua officially presented the nomination certificate to Kibet and called on residents to support his candidacy.

“Let us give him his certificate. Go and support him,” Gachagua said.

The former deputy president described Kibet as a young and competent leader, expressing confidence that he would uphold and build on the leadership legacy left behind by the late area representative, Johana Ng’eno.

He pointed out that the 37-year-old former chief has strong backing at the grassroots level and has shown leadership traits that resonate with the local community.

“I have listened to him. He has the spirit of the late Ng’eno and the courage to lead. I have told him they will try to intimidate him, but he should not be afraid,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua further warned the candidate against falling into political traps, noting that there could be attempts to sway him through financial offers.

“You will be offered money, even millions, but do not sell your community. He has assured me he will not accept such offers in front of the elders,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Kibet would secure the seat, saying he envisions him becoming the next Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr and potentially the first legislator elected under the DCP banner.

“I know the next MP of Emurua Dikirr is Vincent Kibet Rotich, and he will be the first DCP MP in Kenya. This will be a tough contest, but you are not cowards. Go door to door and campaign,” he said.

Gachagua also praised local elders for their efforts in fostering unity among leaders within the constituency, noting that cohesion would strengthen the campaign.

“I am grateful to the elders for bringing leaders together so that you can speak with one voice,” he said.

He added that the campaign team should finalize their plans ahead of an upcoming strategy meeting, assuring them of his participation in the campaign trail once preparations are complete.

“I hear you have a meeting tomorrow. Put everything in order, and once you are ready, I am ready. Call me and tell me when to come,” Gachagua said.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has scheduled the by-election for May 14, 2026.
