Police in Kiminini Sub-County have arrested 11 suspects linked to the Mbogi Yaadu criminal gang following a security crackdown in Birunda, Kiungani and surrounding areas.
In a statement by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers recovered crude weapons, including bows, arrows, machetes and knives, allegedly used by the gang to terrorise residents.
The arrests come after weeks of heightened insecurity in parts of Kiminini, where residents had complained of persistent attacks, intimidation and threats linked to the gang’s activities.
According to the authorities, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring calm in the affected villages.
“For a while, the gang wreaked havoc on the peaceful residents of Kiminini, terrorising the communities of Birunda, Kiungani and neighbouring areas,” DCI said in a statement.
Officers described the operation as a “decisive crackdown to restore safety and security to the region.”
During the raid, law enforcement officers recovered a cache of weapons believed to have been used by the suspects to intimidate and attack members of the public.
“Weapons including bows, arrows, machetes and knives were recovered,” DCI said, adding that the items were used by the gang to “instil fear among innocent citizens.”
The 11 suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities confirmed that the suspects are undergoing processing and will be arraigned at the Kitale Law Courts once investigations are complete.
Police have urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by sharing information that could help prevent crime and dismantle criminal groups.
“#FichuaKwaDCI,” the statement said, encouraging citizens to report criminal activity anonymously. Members of the public can call 0800 722 203 (toll-free) or send information via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
