A new team of 230 Kenyan police officers arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on Monday, December 8, to boost the ongoing operations of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF). The arrival marks Kenya’s fifth deployment aimed at supporting security and stability in the Caribbean nation amid persistent gang violence.
The contingent landed at Toussaint Louverture International Airport and was accompanied by Joseph Boinett, Deputy National Security Advisor to President William Ruto. They were officially received by Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council leader Laurent Saint-Cyr, alongside senior officials from the Haitian government.
Meanwhile, a separate team of 100 officers is set to return to Kenya after completing their one-and-a-half-year assignment in the country.
Speaking shortly after the new team’s arrival, Boinett conveyed greetings from President Ruto to Haiti’s leadership and citizens. He emphasised Kenya’s commitment to supporting the nation in its ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability.
Boinett also expressed appreciation to all personnel who have served under the GSF, applauding those returning for their dedication to the mission. He assured continued cooperation between Kenya and all actors within the GSF framework.

Boinett added that the incoming personnel had undergone intensive training and are dedicated to respecting international human rights standards and adhering to strict operational conduct.
The Kenyan officers will work closely with Haitian authorities, including the Haitian National Police and the military, to dismantle gangs and restore public safety.
Their arrival follows President Ruto’s recent remarks in the United States on December 5, where he reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to assisting Haiti in ending long-standing gang violence.
During the event marking the Rwanda-DR Congo peace treaty, Ruto also acknowledged support from the US administration in mobilising resources for the mission.
