The Ministry of Labour, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, confirmed that 1,213,214 beneficiaries are set to receive Sh2,000 each for the January cycle, with disbursements starting on Thursday, February 6, 2026.

The government has released Sh2.54 billion to ensure that more than 1.2 million older persons and people with severe disabilities receive their January 2026 Inua Jamii stipends.

The cash transfers aim to support households facing economic strain amid worsening drought and food shortages in several regions.

The programme covers 1,149,276 older persons and 63,938 individuals living with severe disabilities, offering them timely financial assistance to meet basic needs.

The Ministry of Labour, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, confirmed that 1,213,214 beneficiaries are set to receive Sh2,000 each for the January cycle, with disbursements starting on Thursday, February 6, 2026.

Beneficiaries, including older persons above 70 years and caregivers of people with severe disabilities, have been urged to access their money through *222# and withdraw at the nearest M-Pesa agent.

Authorities emphasized that the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme remains a key pillar in the government’s social protection framework, focusing on alleviating poverty and improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable groups.

“This disbursement will cushion poor and vulnerable households, especially at a time when most parts of the country are experiencing drought and famine. The households can now put food on the table using the stipends,” Social Protection Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said.

He added, “The government will continue to support the vulnerable population to ensure every Kenyan lives with dignity as provided for in our constitution.”

During a spot-check in Kawangware, Nairobi, Motari highlighted the programme’s contribution to reducing poverty and enhancing social welfare.

“The programme remains a key pillar in reducing poverty and improving the well-being of our most vulnerable citizens. I urge all Inua Jamii beneficiaries, especially older persons, to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable and quality healthcare services,” he said.

Motari also issued a warning about fraudulent schemes misusing the Inua Jamii brand.

“I caution members of the public against fraudsters operating under the guise of the so-called ‘Inua Jamii Foundation.’ The matter is under investigation by the DCI and NIS, and those involved will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

The disbursement is expected to give immediate relief to struggling households, helping them meet essential needs amid economic difficulties and the adverse effects of drought on food security.
