Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has shrugged off recent moves by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) suggesting they have designs on his position.
While inspecting the stalled Maragwa-Ichagaki-Gamburi road in Kirinyaga, Kindiki made it clear that he approaches politics with careful calculation and will not be swayed by sudden claims.
“Do not be unsettled by small things you hear here and there. We are masters of politics and we do not speak carelessly, we speak at the right time," the Deputy President said, stressing that political strategy, not haste, guides his decisions.
Allies in the region voiced strong support, asserting that the deputy presidency is not subject to political bargaining.
“We hold the number two position. Do you want it taken away? Has ODM not just arrived?" Mary Wathera, MP for Maragua, remarked, signaling that both the presidency and deputy presidency have legitimate incumbents.
In Kericho County, Kenya Kwanza officials accused the opposition of trying to derail government development efforts.
“We want to tell those opposing the two-term agenda that the nation cannot be driven by empty rhetoric. They are not talking about what Ruto has done," Erick Mutai, Kericho Governor, said.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya added, “We want issue-based politics focused on uplifting ordinary Kenyans."
In Isiolo County, during campaigns for the Isiolo South by-election, ruling coalition leaders urged opponents to stop politicizing national challenges like drought and allow government programs to progress.
“We are telling the opposition they have no agenda. Let the government do its work," Farouk Kibet, Presidential Aide, stated.
Coalition leaders also directed remarks at former President Uhuru Kenyatta, asking him to step back and follow the path of other retired heads of state. “Please, Uhuru Kenyatta, behave like other retired presidents and allow President Ruto to do his work," John Bwire, MP for Taveta, said.
These statements reinforced the position of Kenya Kwanza that their leadership roles are secure while portraying the opposition as prioritizing rhetoric over tangible achievements.
