Ngong Road night-time lane closures from March 9 to 23 for flyover work

KURA said the interruptions will mainly occur in the evenings and at night, from 6 pm to 2 am, when crews will be carrying out concreting work on the flyover deck.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced that motorists along Ngong Road should expect night-time traffic disruptions near the Naivasha and Kingara Road junctions, around the Junction Mall area, starting Monday, March 9, 2026, through Monday, March 23, 2026.

The diversions are part of ongoing construction of a new flyover designed to ease congestion and improve urban mobility in Nairobi.

KURA said the interruptions will mainly occur in the evenings and at night, from 6 pm to 2 am, when crews will be carrying out concreting work on the flyover deck.

During these hours, a single lane in each direction will remain open, while Karen-bound traffic will be redirected between the Kenya Science Campus entrance and the Nairobi City County Training School entrance.

The authority reassured motorists that daytime travel will largely remain unaffected, with two lanes in each direction maintained. "During daytime hours, no full road closures or major traffic diversions are anticipated as two lanes will be maintained in each direction," KURA stated.

Police officers and traffic marshals will be stationed along the affected section to manage traffic flow and maintain safety. Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and follow the road signs set up to guide drivers through the diversions.

KURA acknowledged that the temporary closures might cause some inconvenience to commuters but emphasized that the work is necessary for Nairobi’s broader urban mobility plans. "We apologise for any inconveniences caused, and as we continue to Transform Urban Mobility," the Authority said.

The flyover is expected to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in one of Nairobi’s busiest corridors once completed.
