Police have arrested two suspected drug dealers in Mombasa’s Utange area after recovering heroin valued at more than Sh4 million during a targeted intelligence-led operation.
In a statement released by the Director of Criminal Investigations, detectives said officers acting on credible intelligence raided a residential compound in the Barawa area of Kisauni Sub-County, where they recovered 1,346 grams of heroin along with tools believed to be used in drug packaging and preparation.
The operation was carried out by a joint team drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, the Transnational Organised Crime Unit and Kiembeni Police Station. The officers moved in on a house concealed behind a high perimeter wall, pointing to efforts by the suspects to keep their activities hidden.
During a detailed search of the house, detectives found several sachets of heroin carefully packed and stored in two bedrooms. Officers later discovered another package buried inside a hole within the compound, suggesting deliberate attempts to hide the drugs from detection.
By the end of the raid, authorities had seized a total of 1,346 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of Sh4,092,000.
Police also recovered a digital weighing scale and a drying machine from the house, indicating that the drugs were being prepared for sale and distribution.
Two suspects, identified as Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar, were arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. Detectives said investigations are ongoing as they prepare to arraign the suspects in court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reaffirmed its resolve to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent narcotics from reaching communities.
“Through sustained intelligence-led operations and multi-agency collaboration, the DCI remains committed in dismantling trafficking networks and keeping narcotics off the Kenyan streets,” the agency said in a statement.
The DCI also appealed to members of the public to support the fight against drugs by sharing information with the authorities.

The arrest adds to ongoing law enforcement efforts to curb drug trafficking in coastal regions, where authorities say close cooperation and timely intelligence continue to play a key role in breaking organized crime networks.
