Ahmed Maalim Hassan of The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has been officially declared the winner of the 2025 Banissa Constituency by-election, ending a tense three-year wait marked by legal battles, uncertainty, and a prolonged political vacuum in the constituency.
The declaration was made on Friday by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer, Hussein Abdi.
“I hereby declare Ahmed Maalim Hassan has been duly elected as a Member of the National Assembly for Banisa in the election held on the 27th day of November, 2025,” said Abdi. Hassan secured a total of 10,431 votes.
Speaking moments after being announced the winner, Hassan expressed deep gratitude to the people of Banissa, dedicating the victory to them rather than himself.
“This victory today is not for me; it is for the people of Banissa,” he said, acknowledging residents for their patience and resilience throughout the long journey to the ballot.
Hassan thanked county leadership, community elders, women leaders, and members of the county assembly for their support.
He also extended appreciation to his campaign team, praising their determination and tireless commitment.
“They worked day and night to make sure today’s victory is possible,” he noted.
Calling for unity and reconciliation, Hassan urged his competitors to accept the election outcome and join him in fostering peaceful coexistence.
“For those who voted for me, thank you. For those who did not, you are still my people and part of Banisa,” he said.
Hassan pledged to prioritize peacebuilding in the diverse constituency, promising strong collaboration with county and national government leaders to restore stability.
He also highlighted his commitment to development, vowing to address the three years of stalled progress and champion opportunities for youth, women, and marginalized groups.
“We have had three years of underdevelopment. I will pull up my socks to ensure Banisa gets what it deserves,” he said, outlining plans to pursue jobs for the youth and improve services across the constituency.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party’s victory in 12 seats during the just-concluded by-elections is a clear indication that President William Ruto remains popular among Kenyans, Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar has said.
Speaking at the party headquarters, Hustler Plaza, Sen. Omar dismissed criticism from the United Opposition and social media commentators, noting that UDA’s ability to secure 12 out of the 21 seats it fielded candidates shows strong national support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
UDA clinched the Baringo Senate seat through Kiprono Chemitei, as well as the Mbeere North and Malava, through Leo Wamuthende and David Ndakwa.
The party further asserted its dominance with Philip Kipruto (Metkei–Elgeyo Marakwet) and Reuben Kigen (Tembelio–Uasin Gishu), who were elected unopposed. Other victories included Amos Mpusia (Purko–Kajiado), Vincent Ruto (Chemundu-Nandi), John Namesek (Lake Zone–Turkana), and Cosmas Napeikar (Nanaam–Turkana), who all won against their rivals.
Sen. Omar also congratulated Isabella Leshimpiro (Angata Nyanyokie– Samburu) and Sophia Maro (Chewani– Tana River), dedicating their victories to women across the country.
