ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has demanded the immediate removal of the Nyeri Governor from his position in the Council of Governors (CoG), describing his conduct as reckless, primitive, and irresponsible.

This comes few hours after a video clip of Nyeri Governor, Mutahi Kahiga is seen celebrating Raila Odinga's death, alluding that all developments were being taken to Nyanza, this prompted God to strike Raila.

She termed him a disgrace to the country and the people of Nyeri County. In her statement dated October 22, 2025 and issued from Kisumu,

Wanga said that the Nyeri Governor’s continued stay in the CoG leadership was untenable and dishonored the dignity of public office.

Through this, ODM Chair insisted that Kahiga should be removed as the Vice Chair of CoG.

“The CoG cannot have a loose mouth, reckless, primitive and irresponsible person holding such a position,” she stated.

Hon. Wanga emphasized that leadership at any level demands restraint, discipline, and respect for both institutions and citizens.

She maintained that anyone entrusted with a leadership role must embody integrity and responsibility, qualities she said the Nyeri Governor had failed to demonstrate.

“He is a disgrace to the country and the people of Nyeri County,” the statement read in part.

The ODM National Chairperson called upon relevant authorities within the Council of Governors to take immediate disciplinary action, asserting that such behavior cannot be tolerated in public office.

According to her statement, the Governor’s remarks and conduct, though unspecified in detail, had brought the institution into disrepute and undermined the values expected of public leaders.

She further urged that the Council of Governors, an institution meant to promote intergovernmental relations and good governance, must uphold professionalism, mutual respect, and accountability among its members.

Wanga’s statement highlighted that leadership decorum is not optional, especially for individuals occupying positions of influence that represent not just their counties, but also the broader interests of the nation.

Her position reflected ODM’s insistence that accountability and integrity remain central to public service.

Her statement signaled a broader call for self-discipline among political leaders and reaffirmed the principle that no individual is above institutional values.

By calling for swift action, she emphasized that the Council of Governors must serve as a model of responsible leadership and not a refuge for controversy.

Her demand placed moral responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the Council’s leadership to preserve its credibility.
