The National Police Service (NPS) has reported continued success in its disarmament drive in Kerio Valley Sub-County, with two more firearms voluntarily surrendered by residents in Kaben and Arror locations.

The surrendered weapons, an AK-47 and a G3 rifle, were handed over to Tot Police Station on October 30, 2025, reinforcing ongoing efforts to enhance security and restore peace in the region.

This latest submission increases the total number of recovered weapons in Kerio Valley Sub-County to 290, alongside 2,137 rounds of ammunition, as authorities intensify measures to remove illegal arms from civilian hands.

“The ongoing disarmament initiative in Kerio Valley Sub-County continues to yield positive results,” the NPS said in a statement. “Yesterday, Tot Police Station received two further illegally held firearms, which were surrendered voluntarily, an AK-47 and a G3 from Kaben and Arror Locations.”

The police service praised local communities for their cooperation, highlighting that voluntary handovers reflect growing public confidence in the government’s security measures.

“The National Police Service appreciates the communities in Kerio Valley for their continued cooperation with the security agencies during this disarmament process,” the statement added.

The disarmament exercise forms part of a broader national strategy to curb inter-community violence, promote harmony, and restore stability in Rift Valley areas affected by banditry and livestock theft.

The NPS expressed optimism that, with sustained community support and government backing, Kerio Valley could soon be free of illegal arms and secure for residents.

President William Ruto reiterated the government’s commitment to ending insecurity in Baringo County, warning criminals that their activities would no longer be tolerated.

Speaking in Kabarnet Town on October 28, 2025, he said, “And I want to tell the people of Baringo. This Baringo has been troubled for many years by a lack of security. I gave orders and I told them when I stepped here in Kabarnet that on matters of the majangili and bandits, we will fight them. And I want to promise you, these people who steal cattle here and carry small guns, I will sort them out completely.”

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who accompanied the President, said the ongoing disarmament is producing encouraging outcomes.

He commended local residents for their cooperation, adding that peace efforts were yielding results, including the reopening of schools previously closed due to insecurity.

“These residents of this area are good people, Your Excellency. They are united in spirit. They have said they want to live like brothers and sisters,” Murkomen said. “The work we started at the border of Marakwet, Pokot and Baringo County — we have already taken 602 guns, Your Excellency. For Baringo, we have taken 170 guns. And that’s just one part; we have not yet come to this whole area.”

Murkomen assured that the disarmament would continue until all illegal firearms were recovered. “We will make sure all guns that are in the hands of civilians are removed so that people can live in peace,” he emphasized.
