According to the hospital administration, the claims are based on misleading information and an image taken outside the hospital grounds — in a parking area commonly used by visitors, taxis, and boda boda operators.

Garissa County Referral Teaching Hospital (GCRTH) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media accusing Administration Police officers stationed at the facility of harassing patients and soliciting bribes during Social Health Authority (SHA) registration.

According to the hospital administration, the claims are based on misleading information and an image taken outside the hospital grounds — in a parking area commonly used by visitors, taxis, and boda boda operators.

Hospital officials clarified that all SHA registration points are located within the facility, next to the administration block and behind the main laboratory, far from the area shown in the viral photo.

The incident in question occurred on 18 November 2025 at around 10:00 AM when Administration Police officers were deployed to temporarily clear the parking space to make way for medical camp tents.

The directive was issued by the Deputy CEO, who instructed officers to guide motorists toward alternative parking.

While most drivers cooperated, one person reportedly refused to move and confronted the officers. The hospital termed the situation an isolated disagreement, which has since been misrepresented as harassment of patients seeking SHA services.

“We categorically deny any form of harassment, bribery, or obstruction of SHA registration. The claims are inaccurate, malicious, and intended to tarnish the hospital’s reputation,” said Deputy CEO Hussein Bashey Ahmed.

He added that the photo being shared “does not reflect any part of the hospital’s service delivery points, and no patient registering for SHA was affected.”

Bashey emphasized the hospital’s commitment to professionalism, patient-centered care, and public accountability, urging the public and media to verify information before sharing it.
