In Summary

Speaking during an interview with Radio Generation on Thursday, Kituyi said the opposition is made up of many different groups with varied backgrounds, but the one thing they agree on is their stand against the continuation of the Ruto government.

The United Opposition is still shaping a complete alternative to the Ruto government, even as its leaders agree on the need for change, spokesperson Mukhisia Kituyi has said.

He explained that while the coalition shares a common goal of ending the current administration, it must first bring young voters on board and strengthen internal coordination before presenting a full policy plan.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Generation on Thursday, Kituyi said the opposition is made up of many different groups with varied backgrounds, but the one thing they agree on is their stand against the continuation of the Ruto government.

“You know the opposition unites very many different people. The minimum shared position is that they are all against the continuation of the Ruto government,” he said.

He noted that this shared position alone is not enough to guide the country, and the coalition needs to build a detailed agenda that can win public confidence.

According to him, this process is still ongoing.

He said the opposition cannot claim to have a complete plan when young people, especially Gen Z, are not yet fully involved.

“You cannot tailor an agenda whose main consumers are going to be Gen Z without their participation,” he said.

Kituyi added that as they work on issues such as macroeconomic policy, governance, fighting corruption, removing costly white elephant projects like affordable housing, and fixing the education system, the next step is creating space for young voters to co-own the agenda.

He said expanding the base of the opposition and allowing Gen Z to help shape its priorities is necessary if the movement is to remain credible.

Kituyi also pointed out that internal decisions, including choosing a presidential candidate, require patience and proper planning.

He said the coalition cannot rush such steps while some credible potential candidates are waiting for clear signals on how different parts of the opposition will work together.

He argued that leadership decisions must be made in a way that allows everyone to feel like part of the process.

Kituyi also reflected on his time in government, saying he understands how public affairs should be managed and where things can go wrong.

In addition, Kituyi expressed concern about how the current administration handles criticism.

He said one of the most important things is restoring responsibility in government and ending the habit of attacking people who disagree.

He warned that this behaviour weakens the dignity of the presidency and distracts from the real challenges facing the country
