The County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) has directed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to arrest and present Samburu governor Jonathan Lelelit for skipping the Senate Committee after the issuance of a summons.

The County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) has directed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to arrest and present Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit before it for skipping the Senate Committee after the issuance of a summons.

The committee, led by Senator Moses Kajwang of Homa Bay, has declared that Governor Lelelit will be fined Sh500,000 for not responding to the Auditor General's summons regarding audit issues for the 2023–2024 fiscal year.

The governor had been invited to appear before the committee on May 20, 2025, but spurned all attempts to appear, forcing the committee to issue the summons, which he equally spurned.

Kajwang directed the Inspector General of Police to move with speed to arrest and present the Governor before the Senate committee at 9 am on December 9, 2025.

''Following his repeated failure to appear before it, on Monday, 3rd November 2025, the Committee resolved to summon Hon. Lati to appear before it on Monday, 1st December 2025, at 2:30 pm,’’ he read.

“The Committee further resolves that pursuant to section 19(3) of the same Act, the Inspector-General of the National Police Service arrests Hon. Jonathan Lelelit Lati and produces him before the Committee by 9 am, 9th December, 2025, to facilitate the execution of the Senate’s oversight role.”

The Samburu Governor was summoned together with his Kericho counterpart, Eric Mutai, who honoured the summons and presented himself before the committee to answer the scheduled audit reports presented before the Senate Committee.

''In light of the stated articles of the law and the repeated defiance of the Committee’s invitations to make an appearance before the Committee and further failure to honour the summons issued, the Committee resolves to fine Hon. Jonathan Lelelit Lati, Governor of Samburu County, Sh. 500,000 pursuant to section 19(1) and (2) of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act, Cap 6," Kajwang’ affirmed.
