A senior police officer serving at the National Police Service headquarters collapsed and died at his home in Chesumei, Nandi County on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Philip Kipchirchir Tuimur, who held the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG), was rushed to a nearby hospital after collapsing at his residence in the Kabutie area of Chesumei sub-county around 5 am. His family confirmed that he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Police said family members notified them immediately after Tuimur lost consciousness. "He collapsed and fell unconscious while at his home," a police statement noted. He was taken to a hospital facility but could not be revived.
Tuimur had a long and distinguished career in the National Police Service, serving in various capacities in the General Service Unit (GSU) before rising to the rank of AIG. Colleagues described him as a dedicated officer, with some remembering him as a kind and respected man.
Throughout his career, Tuimur also held positions as Regional Police Commander in Coast, North Eastern, and Eastern regions before returning to headquarters. He leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to the police force.
In separate incidents across the country, police reported multiple sudden deaths. In Transmara, Narok County, 35-year-old Lawrence Leperes collapsed and died while drinking at a bar.
A friend present at the scene escaped unharmed, while two bar attendants were detained for questioning. The body was moved to the mortuary for further investigations.
In Musoli, Kakamega County, police discovered the body of 63-year-old Mercela Khayenje in her home, showing signs of a violent attack. Khayenje had just returned home when she was allegedly attacked and killed.
Authorities have yet to make arrests, and the body was taken to the mortuary for autopsy and further procedures.
Meanwhile, in Makuyu, Muranga County, Wilson Kori Mwaniki, aged 43, was found dead inside his home. The cause of his death remains unknown, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
These incidents have prompted police across the country to investigate sudden deaths and ensure thorough examinations to determine causes.
