Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has launched a scathing attack on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to criticise President William Ruto’s administration and branding him a symbol of impunity during the previous government.

Speaking when he presided over the 3rd graduation ceremony of the Darul Quran Islamic Centre in Narok Town, Narok County, Duale strongly defended President Ruto’s record in office, saying the Head of State’s performance within three years surpassed that of his predecessors.

He said his assessment was informed by personal experience working under successive administrations.

“The work President William Ruto has done in three years no other President has done. I have worked with President Mwai Kibaki, I worked with Uhuru Kenyatta closely and I now work with Ruto,” Duale said.

The Health CS drew on his long parliamentary career to contextualise his remarks, naming several senior leaders he has served alongside in government and Parliament.

“Riggy G (Rigathi Gachagua) was a one-term MP, and I was his Majority Leader. Justin Muturi and I were in Parliament (together). Peter Munya, too. Fred Matiang'i was a minister and every time we summoned him to parliament he came running,” he said.

Duale then turned his criticism squarely on Matiang’i, accusing the former powerful Interior CS of presiding over grave abuses while in office.

His remarks come amid renewed political debate and criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration by figures associated with the United Opposition outfit.

“I want to tell Fred Matiang'i he is the face of impunity in Kenya. He is the face of extrajudicial killings. He killed many Kenyans; he is the face of corruption. He is the face of nepotism, and he used his office,” Duale said.

The Health CS argued that Matiang’i’s record disqualified him from lecturing the current administration on governance, accountability or the rule of law.

He further grouped the former Interior CS with former Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, whom he also accused of misconduct while in office.

“He should desist and should be the last person to criticize the government of William Ruto. Him and Kinoti,” Duale said.

Matiang’i, who served as Interior CS during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term, has in recent months emerged as a vocal critic of the Ruto administration, raising concerns over governance and policy direction.

His statements have drawn sharp responses from senior Kenya Kwanza figures, reflecting the deepening political rivalry between the current government and elements of the former regime.
