A political storm is brewing in Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii County, after the former MP Zadoc Ogutu surfaced after a three-year stint underground when he lost his bid to the incumbent, Obadiah Barongo.
In 2013, Zadoc Ogutu failed to win the Kisii County gubernatorial, prompting him to shift his cards to Bomachoge Borabu Constituency. He clinched the seat on an independent ticket in 2017 but lost in the 2022 elections while riding on the Jubilee Party ticket.
Ogutu has openly surfaced, accompanied by several UDA lawmakers at Nyakorere grounds. The team was led by Kisii County MP Donya Dorice, calling for Bomachoge Borabu residents to re-elect him after a five-year break.
Reuben Migiro, a resident in Bomachoge, said that since the vanquish of Professor Zadoc and the loss of the seat, they have felt the gap.
"We are happy for you coming back to the people, and we urge you that now, if you get a re-election in the forthcoming elections, please come and finish the stalled work you left. Since you left office, things got stuck, and what you did is evident and felt," he said.
Nyamira County MP Jerusha Momanyi, while drumming support for the broad-based regime said: “When we served with Prof. Zadoc in the previous regime in the National Assembly Education Committee, he built schools here in Bomachoge, and I can confirm the love you have for Ogutu. As I move to Nyamira as the governor in the forthcoming general elections, your re-election is supreme and unstoppable."
Kisii County MP Donya Dorice, the convener of the event to welcome Prof. Zadoc Ogutu to the United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) in Nyakorere Bomachoge Borabu, told the residents to firmly stand with Ogutu to ensure his re-election.
Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Chanda asked the residents of Bomachoge to walk with Ogutu to ensure his reelection as he welcomed him to the UDA party. He also asked the community to rally behind the broad-based regime.
''Without the government, nothing will happen, and we must stand in the government and advocate for its two-term agenda. We shall support the government of the day as a community to the fruits of the government.’’
Joash Nyamoko, MP for North Mugirango and chairperson of Kisii and Nyamira County legislators, said he travels from Nyamira to Kisii to witness the ups and downs since Ogutu's dethronement.
"This man, when he was an MP, did tremendous work. We need him back to serve the community. Bomachoge, you are privileged, and we implore you to bring him to office. Ogutu is well-known in the community; let us reinstate him in government to serve our people. Leadership is your choice, and bad governance is brought about by bad leaders," he said.
Ogutu has, on his part, asked the Bomachoge Borabu residents to give him a second chance to serve the community.
“When I was in the government, even though I was an independent MP, I joined the government of the day, and I worked relentlessly for you people. I constructed schools and roads and upgraded our education systems by giving bursaries, and you all know how much I love you. Please give me a chance to serve you in the next elections,’’ Ogutu said.
