Following a deadly raid on a livestock lorry in Samburu County, Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has urged authorities to act without delay to protect traders and travelers along market routes.
The attack occurred on Thursday evening at around 5:30 pm in Wamba Sub-County, disrupting the usual Thursday market activities. Armed bandits ambushed a lorry transporting livestock from Lolkuniyiani Market, located between Sapashe and Lerata, as it made its way to Isiolo.
Two people were killed, three were injured, and twelve cattle were stolen in the incident.
“We strongly urge the Samburu County security team, in collaboration with all relevant national security agencies, to expedite investigations, pursue the perpetrators, and take decisive action to restore safety and security along the affected routes and market areas,” Guyo said.
Expressing sympathy to those affected, Governor Guyo said, “On behalf of the County Government and the people of Isiolo, we convey our deepest condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of the deceased. We stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time and wish the injured a speedy and full recovery.”
The governor’s statement points to ongoing security gaps along the Isiolo-Samburu trade routes, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated efforts by local and national security agencies.
He emphasized that prompt action is vital to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among traders and communities who rely on these routes.
