Despite this generally calm outlook, the department noted that some areas will still experience light and occasional rainfall. These include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal region, and parts of the South-eastern lowlands.

Kenya is set to experience a largely sunny and dry week, with the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasting stable conditions across most parts of the country, broken only by occasional rainfall in a few regions and notable temperature differences between day and night.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the department said clear skies and dry weather will dominate much of the country in the coming days.

“Predominantly sunny and dry conditions are anticipated across several parts of the country.”

Despite this generally calm outlook, the department noted that some areas will still experience light and occasional rainfall. These include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal region, and parts of the South-eastern lowlands.

Residents in these regions have been advised to remain alert, as the sporadic showers could disrupt outdoor plans and daily routines.

Alongside the dry weather, the department warned of high daytime temperatures in several areas. Daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, as well as parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

These hot conditions are likely to affect people engaged in outdoor work and travel, particularly during the afternoon hours.

At the same time, cooler conditions will be felt at night in some regions. Night-time temperatures below 10°C are forecast in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The department advised residents in these cooler areas to prepare for cold nights and early mornings, which may affect comfort and health.

To help the public stay informed, the Kenya Meteorological Department encouraged Kenyans to follow updates through its official platforms. These include weekly forecasts, county-specific forecasts, and real-time alerts.

The department urged the public to remain alert to weather changes, encouraging Kenyans to be “WeatherReady” and adopt ClimateSmart practices to cope with shifting conditions.

Overall, the forecast points to a manageable mix of sunshine, heat, occasional rainfall, and cool nights depending on location. Kenyans have been advised to plan their activities carefully, especially in areas expected to receive rain.

As January 2026 continues, the Kenya Meteorological Department said it remains committed to providing timely and accurate forecasts to support public safety and preparedness across the country.
