The regulator highlighted that contractors who have gone without renewing their licences as of January 1, 2026, are now at risk.

Contractors who have neglected to renew their Annual Practicing Licences face the risk of being struck off the National Construction Authority (NCA) register unless they act within the next two weeks.

The authority issued a notice on Tuesday, January 27, emphasizing that failure to pay annual fees for two consecutive years triggers automatic removal under the law.

"Pursuant to Section 25(1)(c) of the Act, the Board of the National Construction Authority (NCA) is empowered to delete the name of any registered contractor who fails to pay annual subscription fees for two (2) consecutive years," the notice stated.

The regulator highlighted that contractors who have gone without renewing their licences as of January 1, 2026, are now at risk.

"Accordingly, the Authority hereby notifies all contractors who have not renewed their Annual Practicing Licences for two (2) consecutive years, as at 1st January 2026, that their names stand to be deleted from the NCA Register of Contractors," the notice added.

To maintain their registration, contractors must settle all outstanding renewal fees by February 10, 2026.

"To remain in good standing, all contractors are required to settle outstanding annual renewal fees on or before 10th February 2026," the notice further read.

Licence renewal is not just about fees; contractors are also required to earn ten Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points by attending seminars either hosted by NCA or accredited by the authority.

"The renewal of an Annual Practicing Licence requires the mandatory accrual of ten (10) Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points through attendance of NCA or NCA-accredited CPD seminars, in line with Regulation 14 of the NCA Regulations (2014). All renewals shall be processed through the NCA online portal via https://portal.nca.go.ke," the notice concluded.

The warning coincides with ongoing enforcement against unauthorized construction. Last week in Mombasa County, authorities arrested 18 individuals for violating building regulations. County officers also removed a gate that had been illegally built on a public road close to the ocean.

Mohamed Hussein, County Executive Committee Member for Lands and Urban Planning, said repeated breaches by private developers are common. He cited illegal modifications like extra floors and rooftop swimming pools, which have weakened structures and in some cases caused cracks or collapses.
