National Police Service officers, backed by National Police Reservists (NPR), on Sunday repelled armed raiders and recovered 50 stolen goats following an ambush along the Marti–Sulubei Road in Samburu County. The suspects fled into the Loibasat area after a fierce exchange of fire with pursuing officers.
According to the statement by National Police Service, the operation was triggered by a distress call from a resident of Marti Location reporting that a herdsman grazing goats along the Marti–Sulubei Road had been ambushed by unknown raiders who forcefully drove away the livestock.
“Officers from the National Police Service (NPS), supported by National Police Reservists (NPR), mounted a swift and coordinated response following a distress call,” the statement said.
Security teams immediately mobilised and pursued the suspects, tracking their movement across the rugged terrain. Officers intercepted the raiders a short distance from the scene, prompting what authorities described as a fierce exchange of fire.
“The pursuit quickly escalated into a fierce exchange of fire as the officers confronted the armed raiders,” police said, adding that the assailants were overpowered by the coordinated response.
Faced with mounting pressure, the raiders retreated into thickets toward the Loibasat area, abandoning the stolen livestock.
“The assailants were overpowered and forced to retreat into the thickets towards the Loibasat area, abandoning the stolen livestock in their wake,” the statement added.
All fifty goats were successfully recovered and later handed back to the owner in the presence of the area Assistant Chief, marking a relief for the affected family.
Police said the operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb banditry and livestock theft in the region.
“This successful operation highlights the sustained security operations targeting banditry and livestock theft, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the National Police Service to protect communities and ensure the safety of lives and property,” the statement read in part.
