The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has appointed Eng. Jackson Karubiu Magondu as Director General, marking a new chapter in rural infrastructure development.
With over 30 years of engineering experience, Magondu is set to drive strategic initiatives and strengthen institutional capacity, connecting communities across Kenya through enhanced rural road networks.
The Board highlighted Magondu’s "over 30 years of extensive experience in the roads and infrastructure sector, holding various leadership positions and roles in his career path."
He is tasked with steering the authority in its mandate to improve rural road networks and connect Kenya’s devolved counties more effectively.
According to the press statement on Feb 17, 2026, Eng. Magondu brings "a wealth of experience with over 24 years of post-registration experience in the field of highway and road engineering."
This includes both technical expertise and strategic leadership capabilities, which the Board said will be instrumental in advancing the construction of rural roads across the country.
Eng. Magondu is academically well-prepared for the role, holding a Master's Degree in Infrastructure Management from Yokohama National University in Japan, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi.
His professional qualifications include being a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (I.E.K), and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom.
In the announcement, the Board of Directors expressed full confidence in Eng. Magondu’s ability to lead KeRRA through a critical phase of rural infrastructure development.
"The Board congratulates Eng. Jackson Karubiu Magondu on his appointment and wish him well and God's speed, as he steers the Authority in this new season and chapter in the construction of rural roads and Connecting Devolved Kenya," the statement read.
Chairman Anthony Mwaura Ng'ang'a further emphasized the significance of strong leadership in achieving the authority’s mandate.
The statement reflects the Board’s expectation that Magondu will bring strategic direction, institutional capacity, and operational efficiency to KeRRA’s programs.
KeRRA’s mandate is vital to Kenya’s development, as the authority is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and improvement of rural roads across the country.
These roads are essential for connecting remote communities to economic opportunities, healthcare, education, and other critical services.
With his extensive experience, Eng. Magondu is expected to implement policies that will enhance both the quality and durability of rural roads.
The Board’s announcement also highlights his track record in strategic program delivery and his ability to lead complex infrastructure projects successfully.
Eng. Magondu’s appointment comes at a time when Kenya is investing heavily in devolved development and infrastructure expansion.
The rural road network is a crucial component of this agenda, aiming to ensure equitable access to transportation and economic growth for all regions.
"The Board congratulates Eng. Jackson Karubiu Magondu on his appointment," the statement reiterated, reflecting optimism about the positive impact of his leadership. His tenure is set for three years, renewable once, allowing continuity and strategic planning over a meaningful period.
As the new Director General, Eng. Magondu will oversee KeRRA’s strategic initiatives, including construction projects, maintenance programs, and institutional capacity building.
His leadership is expected to strengthen the authority’s operations and enhance accountability and service delivery in rural road development.
The announcement reaffirms the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, and boosting economic activity in rural areas.
Eng. Magondu’s experience and expertise are viewed as key assets in achieving these goals and transforming Kenya’s rural road landscape.
With a combination of technical expertise, leadership experience, and academic credentials, Eng. Magondu is positioned to guide KeRRA through a pivotal phase, ensuring the authority continues to connect communities and facilitate sustainable development throughout Kenya.
