A coordinated operation by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and other security agencies on Monday led to the seizure of cannabis valued at about Sh1 million following a high-speed chase in Molo Town, Nakuru County.

The dramatic pursuit unfolded late at night after officers received intelligence on a suspected trafficker moving a large consignment of cannabis in a white Toyota Probox. Authorities had laid an ambush in the Munju area, hoping to intercept the vehicle.

When police signaled the driver to stop, the suspect attempted to flee, making a sudden U-turn and sparking a tense chase through Molo’s streets. During the escape, the driver allegedly threw three large sacks from the moving car before disappearing into the darkness.

Officers quickly secured the abandoned sacks and transported them to Molo Police Station for safekeeping and forensic examination. Preliminary assessments indicate the consignment contained around 200 brooms of cannabis, each estimated to retail at Sh500, bringing the total street value to roughly Sh1 million.

The suspect remains at large, prompting a manhunt to apprehend the individual and dismantle the supply network behind the shipment. Investigators say efforts are underway to track down accomplices and curb further trafficking in the area.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa praised the public for providing the crucial tip that led to the seizure.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the public who continue to play their rightful role in pointing out criminals within our communities,” said Dr. Omerikwa.

He stressed that the operation highlights the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and residents in fighting drug trafficking and substance abuse.

“These enforcement efforts are ongoing and relentless. We are committed to ensuring that our communities remain safe from the harmful effects of narcotics,” he added. “We will not relent in going after those who seek to profit from the destruction of our youth.”

Authorities have urged Nakuru residents and the wider public to continue providing information that can help curb the drug trade and keep communities safe.
