The National Police Service (NPS) has assured Kenyans that it is fully prepared to maintain law and order during the November 27, 2025, by-elections.

The assurance comes ahead of Thursday's by-elections in 24 electoral units countrywide, which have drawn national attention amid recent incidents of political clashes in some regions, with the united opposition claiming that the police officers who will not be in uniform will be state-sponsored goons.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the service said it will perform its duties professionally, impartially, and in strict compliance with the Constitution.

“The National Police Service remains a key National Security Organ established under the Constitution of Kenya with a solemn mandate to protect life and property, prevent and detect crime, maintain public order and safety in adherence to the rule of law, and uphold human rights,” the statement read.

With political activities intensifying ahead of polling day, the NPS said it is working closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure a peaceful and credible election. Security personnel will be deployed across the country to safeguard voters, election officials, and public property.

The service also warned political leaders against inflammatory or divisive rhetoric. “All political actors are urged, regardless of their affiliation to conduct their activities within the confines of the law,” the NPS said.

Leaders were further cautioned against making statements that could be interpreted as inciting violence, spreading hatred, or undermining confidence in state institutions.

Police officers have been instructed to act professionally while respecting the rights of all citizens. The NPS emphasized that anyone, regardless of political standing, who engages in or incites unlawful activity will face the full force of the law.

“Alongside other criminal justice agencies, the NPS shall make sure perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted,” the statement added.

The public was urged to remain calm, carry on with their daily activities, and report suspicious activity through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, and 112, or anonymously via #FichuakwaDci on 0800 722 203 or the NPS WhatsApp line at 0709 570 000.

“The National Police Service reaffirms its steadfast commitment to upholding the Constitution and to maintaining operational independence, impartiality, and political neutrality in its duty of service,” NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.

The NPS called on both the public and political leaders to cooperate fully with law enforcement and electoral officials to ensure that the by-elections are conducted peacefully and transparently.
