In Summary

Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro, received a crown as the Best MP in Governance and Leadership, recognition for his continued steps ahead in education through the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme.

Political leaders on Saturday night converged at a Nairobi hotel for the 2025 4th Edition Jamhuri Kenya Awards, an event that brought together leaders from counties to national levels to celebrate leadership, governance and public service milestones.

The event saw Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), Members of Parliament (MPs) and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) recognised for outstanding performance in different portfolios.

Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro, received a crown as the Best MP in Governance and Leadership, recognition for his continued steps ahead in education through the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme.

"I'm Glad that the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme continues to impact many by offering quality Education." Nyoro expressed his gratitude.

He noted, "Learners in all Day Secondary Schools in Kiharu pay only Ksh 1,000 Per term. The rest is subsidised through the Program supported by Kiharu NG - CDF."

Speaking after receiving the award, Nyoro sharply maintained that education remains a national priority, urging the executive to reconsider proposed cuts in school capitation.

"I'm very passionate about education, and I'm calling upon, especially those who are in decision-making in the government that we cannot afford at any moment to play around with education, and we cannot afford not to be seen as knowing what education does to an economy," Nyoro said.

He has sharply differed with the government’s proposed capitation cuts over the recent circular issued to school heads.

"Before the closure of last term, the day Secondary school principals received a circular from the government, intending to cut capitation. Cutting capitation is basically shifting the burden to parents that in our day, their school fees will be increased to over Ksh. 22,000. It's totally unacceptable, and we cannot allow this to happen as legislators," he said.

Marakwet West MP, Timothy Toroitich, was also feted, taking home the award as the Best Performing lawmaker from the Rift Valley Region.

Addressing the press shortly after the awards, Toroitich maintained that true leadership requires consistency, trust, focus and hard work.

"As MPs, we must be alive to produce sound legislation. I thank the Jamhuri Awards for the recognition, and I wish to call upon members of Parliament to protect, defend and uphold our constitution to assist our government by doing proper oversight.’’

He added, " If we are able to oversight, we will be able to avoid passing laws which are acrimonious and not for the best interest of our people."

On the other hand, the ODM nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian was honoured as well in the Youth Empowered Governance and Leadership category.

Lemaletian described the award as a crucial platform that amplifies young people's voices in leadership platforms.

Kesses MP, Julius Rutto, was not left alone; he also bagged the award as well saying the award is a recognition for his significant contributions to education and infrastructure development in Kesses.

"The kind of transformations we are able to bring when we are working together is what can change our lives more than the politics of populists. Basically, Education is the only empowerment which can change our people offering equal opportunities," Rutto said.

Several MCAs and County CECMs were similarly honoured during the ceremony, marking a night dedicated to celebrating leadership excellence across.
