In Summary

Sheryl Adhiambo was shot on the night of Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Jonsaga while helping her mother sell fish at a local shed.

Protests erupted on Sunday in Nairobi’s Huruma Estate following the alleged killing of a 21-year-old Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student by a police officer.

Reports indicate that Sheryl Adhiambo was shot on the night of Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Jonsaga while helping her mother sell fish at a local shed.

Human rights organisations, led by the Mukuru Community Justice Centre, condemned the incident as senseless.

“We condemn this senseless police violence and demand that the officers responsible be arrested immediately. This is just one of many killings carried out by police. How many more lives must be lost before justice is served,” it said.

The shooting occurred as police had been deployed in the area to address gang-related activities, including shop break-ins.

She was reportedly hit by a stray bullet as police pursued suspected thugs in the area.

On Sunday, protesters clashed with police while demanding justice over the killing.

Roads were blocked, fires lit, vehicles and business stalls torched, and shops looted as angry youths confronted officers.

Sheryl was a first-year KMTC student who had just completed her exams and returned home to help her mother at a fish kiosk when the incident happened.

Her body is at the City Mortuary as police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The incident comes amid growing concern over rising crime and intensified police operations in the area.
