At least 14 people were killed in a tragic road accident early Friday at Migaa, Molo, along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The fatal crash involved a Kitale Shuttle matatu and a trailer, with authorities confirming that everyone aboard the matatu perished in the 3 a.m. collision.
According to police reports, the accident occurred when the trailer’s driver lost control, causing the vehicle to slam into the matatu and drag it for some distance.
The impact was devastating, leaving passengers fatally trapped inside. The driver of the trailer and a crew member were also killed in the crash.
Police spokesman Michael Muchiri stated that the victims included nine men, four women, and a child. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save anyone.
"Migaa is a notorious blackspot, known for frequent accidents. The bodies of the victims have been taken to the mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations into the cause of the crash continue." Muchiri said.
He stated they are rolling out a campaign to combat the growing threat of fatal road accidents.
Despite the ongoing efforts, the number of deadly crashes in the country continues to rise. Police have joined forces with government agencies to push the initiative forward.
Each year, road accidents claim more than 4,000 lives, leaving thousands of others with severe injuries that bring long-term suffering to families.
