Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said UDA candidate for the Mbeere North by-election, Leonard Wamuthende (Leo), is the best choice to take the constituency forward.
The DP said Leo has demonstrated a notable grasp of key issues affecting residents, including roads, water, electricity, education, and other matters of importance to Mbeere North voters.
Kindiki spoke on Saturday when he led campaigns for Leo in Ngiiri and Kyenire in the constituency, urging voters not to be duped into abandoning the government that is implementing projects worth billions of shillings in the area.
“We are supporting Wamuthende because we will work with him to complete the projects being implemented by the government in the area,” the DP noted.
He said the ruling party has thrown its support behind the candidate because he has the best credentials to be the next Mbeere North MP.
“It is only Leo who has affirmed his support for bursaries for all students from Mbeere North. His competitors want to scrap the programme, yet it is beneficial to hundreds of learners,” he said.
The government, he added, is fulfilling promises made to the people of Mbeere North through the tarmacking of roads, extension of water projects, electricity connections, and construction of modern markets, among other developments.
The DP assured residents that the administration will not marginalize them as previous regimes allegedly did.
He criticised what he termed hypocrisy by those supporting the opposition candidate, saying they did nothing to influence development projects in the area during their time in powerful positions.
“When we needed them most, we didn’t see them here in Mbeere. Now they are all over insulting us and talking down leaders to the people. Don’t be distracted by them. This is our government. We are going to push for development from within. We will not abandon it as some of our opponents are telling you,” he reiterated.
He urged voters to turn out in large numbers and vote for Mr. Leo on Thursday, saying their support would be duly appreciated.
“We will be grateful, and we will not forget your support. We will complete ongoing projects and commence many more here,” he said.
