The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the full timetable for four by-elections set to be held on February 26, 2026, to fill vacant seats at both national and county levels. The elections will take place in Isiolo, Embu, and Kakamega counties.
In a gazette notice issued by IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon, the commission listed the contests as the Isiolo South parliamentary seat and MCA races in Muminji and Evurore wards within Mbeere North constituency. West Kabras ward in Malava constituency, Kakamega County, will also vote on the same day.
Chairperson Ethekon announced that the commission has named six Returning and Deputy Returning Officers to oversee the by-elections, with two officers deployed in each county where the polls will be conducted.
The Isiolo South seat became vacant following the death of Mohamed Tubi, who won the seat in the 2022 General Election. The three MCA positions fell vacant after the elected members resigned to seek parliamentary seats during the November 27 by-elections.
IEBC directed political parties to submit the names of their nominated candidates by January 16, while independent candidates are required to submit their names and symbols by January 2.
"Each political party intending to participate in the by-elections shall submit the names and specimen signatures of the authorized persons on or before Tuesday, 13th January, 2026," the notice read.
The commission further stated that independent candidates must not have belonged to any political party for a period of at least three months before the by-election date.
"The Commission shall publish, in the Gazette, the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary within seven (7) days of receipt of the names of the candidates," the notice stated.
Campaigns will officially begin on January 22 and end on February 23, two days before the polls. During the campaign period, candidates will be allowed to campaign daily from 7 am to 6 pm.
