Police in Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County, have intensified a multi-agency crackdown on illicit brews and narcotic drugs following a targeted operation in the Kimbo area that led to the recovery of a large haul of suspected illegal substances and the arrest of one suspect.
The operation was led by officers from the National Police Service in collaboration with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the production and distribution of illegal drugs within residential communities.
According to police, the team recovered 2,983 rolls and 94 sachets of plant material suspected to be Cannabis sativa.
Also seized during the operation were a digital weighing scale, assorted packaging materials, mobile phones, and cash believed to be proceeds of crime, indicating what authorities described as an organised distribution network.
One suspect was arrested at the scene and escorted to the police station, where all recovered items were secured as exhibits.
Police said the suspect remains in lawful custody and is expected to be processed and arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
The crackdown forms part of broader law enforcement operations across Kiambu County, where authorities have raised concerns over the rising availability of illicit brews and narcotic substances, particularly in densely populated urban and peri-urban areas.
Security officials say such substances continue to pose serious risks to public health, undermine security, and erode the socio-economic wellbeing of families and communities.
In a statement following the operation, the National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating the production, trafficking, and distribution of illegal drugs and alcohol.
The service said sustained multi-agency collaboration and intelligence-led operations remain central to dismantling criminal networks involved in the trade.
Police also appealed to members of the public to actively support law enforcement by sharing information on suspected drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods.
Citizens were urged to report such information through the toll-free emergency numbers 999, 911, or 112, or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI platform on 0800 722 203 or through WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
Authorities said community cooperation remains critical to ensuring safer neighbourhoods and protecting young people from the harmful effects of illicit drugs and unregulated alcohol.
