The government has released Sh877,608,000 to help 438,804 households caring for orphans and vulnerable children, aiming to improve their well-being, education, nutrition, and health.
Payments under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) programme will start on Friday, January 9, 2026, through a designated payment service provider.
“The Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services, through the State Department for Children Services, has disbursed a total of Sh877,608,000 to 438,804 Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) Programme households under the Inua Jamii initiative,” the Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
This allocation covers the November 2025 payment cycle, with each eligible household receiving Sh2,000. “Payments are scheduled to commence on Friday, January 9, 2026, through the contracted Payment Service Provider,” the statement added.
The programme is designed to encourage families and communities to care for orphans while supporting children’s overall growth and development. Principal Secretary for the State Department for Children Services, Carren Ageng’o, explained that the CT-OVC programme helps increase school enrolment, improve nutrition and health outcomes, enhance household food security, and strengthen child protection measures.
The CT-OVC initiative operates within the broader Inua Jamii framework, one of the government’s main social protection programmes, ensuring vulnerable children nationwide receive crucial financial support to improve their living conditions and opportunities.
