Six workers who had been trapped in a building that collapsed early Wednesday morning have been successfully rescued, according to the Red Cross. The structure gave way at the junction of Racecourse and Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi, leaving several workers injured and prompting a swift response from rescue teams and police.
The incident occurred at about 4 am on February 11, 2026, while construction was being carried out at night. Rescuers said one worker suffered serious injuries, while the others had minor wounds.
Central Police Commander Stephene Nyakombo confirmed there were 18 workers on site when the collapse happened.
“We have so far rescued and accounted for all of the workers. Out of the 18, six were injured while others were rescued with no injuries,” he said.
Nyakombo added that authorities were investigating why the construction was taking place at night. “We will seek answers from among the county officials,” he said.
The site was cordoned off as rescue teams carried out their operations.
This collapse comes less than a month after another building under construction fell in South C, Nairobi, killing two people. Investigations into that earlier incident are still ongoing.
