Police in Homa Bay have apprehended a suspect following the seizure of a large cache of cannabis during an intelligence-led operation in Kanyadhiang. Officers recovered 1,825 rolls of cannabis, 113 cannabis-made brooms, and roughly 4 kilograms of unpacked cannabis, all concealed in sacks inside a white Toyota Corolla.
The National Police Service (NPS) reported that the operation, which took place on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, was spearheaded by officers from Kendu Bay Police Station. The mission specifically targeted illegal alcohol and narcotics trafficking along the Kendu Bay–Homa Bay corridor in North Karachuonyo.
Authorities intercepted the vehicle, registration number KAM 168U, after monitoring suspected routes frequently used by traffickers. “Police officers from Kendu Bay Police Station, conducted an intelligence-led operation targeting illicit alcohol and drugs along the Kendu Bay–Homa Bay road,” the NPS confirmed.
A thorough search of the car uncovered multiple sacks carefully concealing the cannabis. The recovered items included 1,825 rolls, 113 brooms, and about 4 kilograms of unpacked cannabis, which traffickers had disguised to avoid detection.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and escorted to Kendu Bay Police Station to await formal processing and court arraignment.
Police said the confiscated vehicle and narcotics have been secured as evidence. Officers highlighted that the operation underscores the importance of coordinated intelligence in disrupting illicit trade, while also signaling continued monitoring of known trafficking routes in the county.
“The National Police Service remains committed to intensifying its efforts against illicit alcohol, narcotics, and all forms of criminal activity that threaten the safety and security of the public,” the statement read.
The seizure revealed not only the volume of cannabis being moved but also the sophisticated methods used by traffickers. Officials noted that the inclusion of 113 brooms made from cannabis indicates an effort to disguise the drugs as ordinary items.
Using four large sacks to transport the substances suggests traffickers intended to blend the shipment with legitimate goods along local transport routes.
Police emphasized that while this arrest marks a significant disruption, investigations are ongoing to identify possible networks connected to the seized consignment. No additional suspects have been named, but the evidence gathered will guide further action.
The operation is part of a broader crackdown on criminal activities across Homa Bay County, aimed at safeguarding the public and reducing the flow of illegal substances. The NPS reinforced that enforcement against narcotics and other illicit goods remains a top priority.
