Messo Roars Back into Title Contention with Kericho Clinic

Sports · Wainaina Mark · February 11, 2026

Former NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale champion Tobias Messo announced his return to the big stage in emphatic fashion at the Kericho Golf Club Monthly Mug, firing a scintillating 65 nett to seize the Division Two men’s crown and punch his ticket to the 2026 season-ending Grand Finale.

A Vintage Performance from a Proven Winner

Messo’s weekend at Kericho felt like a page from his 2021 playbook. The man who lifted the overall series crown five years ago produced a composed, clinical round that reminded everyone why he remains a force on the circuit. That 65 nett was more than a score — it was a statement: the former champion is back in the hunt and hungry for another shot at glory.

Kericho’s Other Stars Shine Bright

The Kericho leg delivered drama across the leaderboard. Kimeli Mweu stamped his authority by claiming the overall gross title with a solid 77 gross, earning his own place in the Grand Finale. In the men’s gross category, Ignatius Ngetich topped the field with 88 gross, while Dorcas Bert dominated the women’s competition, taking Lady Gross honours with 90 gross — both securing automatic qualification.

Youth Movement and Depth of Talent

The weekend also showcased the NCBA Golf Series’ commitment to nurturing emerging talent. Josphat Jomo led Division Three with a winning 69 nett, and Fidel Wasike was crowned Junior Winner after returning 86 gross — proof that Kenya’s next generation is ready to step up.

The Road to the Grand Finale Heats Up

The 2026 NCBA Golf Series kicked off in late January at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, where seven players already booked early spots in the Grand Finale. Kericho’s mini-qualifier added more names to that list and set the stage for the next chapter: Muthaiga Golf Club, which hosts the third leg this Saturday, February 14. With momentum building and the leaderboard tightening, the race to the season-ending showdown promises to be electrifying.
