President William Ruto on Tuesday held talks with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on the sidelines of the 7th African Union–European Union Summit in Luanda, Angola.

The two leaders on Tuesday reaffirmed the deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Ruto said Kenya and Mozambique continue to enjoy strong ties anchored on expanding trade, agricultural collaboration, and shared blue economy ambitions.

He noted that both countries are prioritizing joint efforts to scale up private sector participation in maritime affairs, fisheries development, and tourism, sectors he described as “central to our shared growth and opportunity.”

“Our partnership is growing stronger as we work together to unlock new ventures in the blue economy and strengthen commercial collaboration,” President Ruto said after the meeting.

The bilateral engagement was held on the sidelines of the AU–EU Summit and the Second Session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee on AU Institutional Reform in Luanda.

Ruto said the summit offers a platform to review 25 years of Africa–Europe cooperation while addressing shifting geopolitical priorities, widening funding gaps, and rising security pressures.

This year’s summit focuses on deepening political and economic partnerships, strengthening peace and security cooperation, and advancing climate resilience.

Leaders across the continent are expected to explore ways to modernize development financing and equip Africa’s youth through innovation and education-driven empowerment.

During the AU reform session, President Ruto will join other Heads of State in deliberations aimed at making the African Union more efficient, transparent, and financially sustainable.

He emphasized that institutional reforms are essential to ensuring the Union “serves Africa’s needs with greater clarity and impact.”

The president is scheduled to hold several bilateral discussions with African and European leaders, targeting expanded trade, investment, and regional security cooperation.
