The delivery is part of the government’s strengthened direct-to-facility distribution system aimed at ensuring public hospitals across the country maintain a steady and reliable stock of essential medicines.

Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital has received a major consignment of essential drugs and medical supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) boosting healthcare service delivery in the region.

The delivery is part of the government’s strengthened direct-to-facility distribution system aimed at ensuring public hospitals across the country maintain a steady and reliable stock of essential medicines.

The consignment includes crucial supplies such as antibiotics, pain relievers, snake anti-venom, and medication for chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.

Garissa County Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mahat Sheikh Salah assured the public that strict monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure that all medical supplies are properly distributed, used responsibly, and reach patients who need them most.

“No misconduct in the drug supply chain will be tolerated. Any cases of mismanagement or diversion will be addressed firmly,” Mahat said.

Mahat also clarified that, according to National Pharmaceutical Guidelines, some chronic illness medications can only be dispensed at health centres and Level IV facilities.

He further encouraged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to continue benefiting from affordable healthcare services under the national insurance scheme.

He welcomed the delivery, noting that it will strengthen ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access and ensure uninterrupted service provision across Garissa.

The supply underscores the commitment of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, under Governor Nathif Jama, to enhance the wellbeing of all residents.
