TSC Chief Executive Officer Eveleen Mitei said all teachers set to receive the first cohort of Grade 10 learners are trained and equipped to deliver the senior school curriculum under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has assured parents and education stakeholders that the country is ready for the arrival of Grade 10 learners into senior school, with teachers prepared to implement the new curriculum.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Eveleen Mitei said all teachers set to receive the first cohort of Grade 10 learners are trained and equipped to deliver the senior school curriculum under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.

Speaking on the readiness of the education sector, Mitei said the Commission has focused on equipping teachers with the necessary skills, competencies, and confidence to manage the diverse learning needs of students transitioning from junior secondary.

“The Commission assures parents that all teachers are prepared to receive Grade 10 candidates. They are adequately equipped with the competencies, skills and confidence required to meet the diverse learning mix of our learners under the competency-based framework,” Mitei said.

She noted that the Grade 10 learners, who will start senior school on Monday, January 12, 2026, will experience a learning environment designed to nurture their talents, interests, and career pathways.

Mitei urged heads of senior school institutions to broaden their curriculum offerings to accommodate the variety of subject combinations under the CBE system. She added that the Commission is committed to addressing teacher shortages in new learning areas to ensure smooth delivery of the senior school curriculum.

“Interventions are already underway to strengthen staffing levels and build capacity in specialised subjects as part of the wider education reforms,” she said.

The TSC CEO also commended teachers for their role in the successful administration of the 2025 national examinations. She praised their professionalism and dedication in preparing, supervising, and invigilating the exams, which she said were conducted with credibility, integrity, and fairness.

In 2025, the Commission vetted and deployed 77,600 teachers to oversee national examinations, including centre managers, supervisors, and invigilators. Mitei attributed the smooth conduct of the exams to strong leadership and effective collaboration between education officials, security agencies, and other stakeholders.

She urged teachers to maintain focus and uphold professional standards as the education sector navigates the transition to senior school under the new system. Mitei emphasised that teachers are central to both the success of examinations and the implementation of the senior school curriculum.

The Grade 10 transition marks a key milestone in the roll-out of the Competency-Based Education system, which aims to link learning with practical skills and real-world application.
