As the week of October 21-27, 2025, unfolds, Kenyans are being urged to prepare for a marked shift in weather with increased rainfall expected across most parts of the country.
According to the Kenya Met Department’s latest seven-day outlook, many regions including the Central Highlands (with Nairobi), the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya are likely to see rain.
The advisory warns especially of isolated heavy rainfall events, signalling a heightened risk of flash-flooding or water-logging in susceptible areas.
Meanwhile, temperature patterns will vary dramatically, coastal, north-eastern and north-western regions are forecast to record daytime highs above 30 °C, while parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro may endure night-time lows below 10 °C.
This combination of warmer plains and chilly highlands will add extra complexity for residents and planners alike.
The rainfall uptick marks the transition into a wetter phase for many counties, with implications for agriculture, transport and daily life.
Farmers in the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya should brace for disrupted field operations, while urban dwellers in Nairobi and the Central Highlands may face drainage challenges and pothole risk.
In the Rift Valley and Northwest, heavy downpours could trigger localized flooding or mud‐slides in hilly terrain. With such scenarios in mind, the KMD is advising residents to stay alert, especially when driving, and to take basic precautions such as clearing gutters, avoiding low-lying areas and staying tuned to local updates.
At the same time, the contrast in temperature, hot coastal plains and cold highlands emphasises Kenya’s diverse micro‐climates and the need for region-specific preparation.
Travelers and outdoor workers should pack accordingly, light, breathable clothing for daytime heat in the lowlands, but warm layers for early mornings and evenings at higher altitude.
All told, the week ahead is shaping up to be one of contrasts from heavy rain in several regions to soaring heat in others and chilly nights in the highlands.
Staying informed and prepared will be key if you’re moving around the country or working outdoors.
