President William Ruto has mourned the late Sammy Lui, describing him as a dedicated public servant, veteran broadcaster, and respected State Master of Ceremonies whose voice became part of Kenya’s national identity.

In his message of condolence, the President hailed Lui’s long and distinguished career in the media and public communication sectors, saying his contribution left a lasting mark on Kenya’s broadcasting history.

“Sammy Lui was a dedicated public servant, a veteran broadcaster, and the respected State Master of Ceremonies. From his early days as one of Kenya’s pioneer journalists at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation to his time at the Presidential Press Service, and later, as Director of State Events, his powerful voice was the familiar soundtrack to Kenyans,” President Ruto said.

He noted that Lui’s professionalism and commitment to excellence inspired generations of broadcasters and public communicators.

“His sterling career influenced many who followed in his footsteps, and his huge contribution to our media industry will not be forgotten,” the President added.

Lui served in various communication roles across government, including as Director of State Events, where he coordinated official functions and national ceremonies.

His distinctive voice and calm presence made him a familiar figure at major state occasions.

President Ruto extended his condolences to Lui’s family, colleagues, and the wider media fraternity, acknowledging the profound loss to Kenya’s public communication landscape.

“Our condolences to the family, friends, and the media fraternity. Rest in peace, Lui,” he said.

Lui’s passing marks the end of an era for Kenya’s broadcasting community, where he was regarded as a mentor and role model to many journalists and public information officers.

According to police, Lui was found dead in his house on Thursday afternoon.

He lived alone at his Subukia home after he relocated from Nairobi.

He served as state functions secretary during the tenure of late President Mwai Kibaki.
