Ahead of the polls, members will undergo an extensive sensitization programme meant to guide them on how the party’s election system works and the proper steps for handling complaints. The Electoral and Nominations Dispute Resolution Committee, working hand in hand with the National Elections Board, will lead the training from December 8 to 19 in all counties earmarked for the elections.

The United Democratic Alliance has confirmed that its grassroots elections will be held on January 10, 2026, in 20 counties, marking the next phase of the party’s plan to strengthen its local structures.

The date was set after the National Executive Committee agreed on the schedule on December 2, followed by a formal notice issued two days later by the National Elections Board.

ENDRC chairperson Adrian Kamotho called on party members to turn up for the sessions, saying, “These sessions are designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and orderliness in the conduct of the Grassroots Elections.” He noted that the forums will help members understand both their roles and the dispute process at every stage of the exercise.

The sensitization will take place in Bomet, Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Kericho, Vihiga, Nyeri, Baringo, Nakuru, Murang’a, Trans Nzoia, Embu, Meru, and Samburu.

Kamotho said the aim is to prepare members to engage fully and promote orderly participation throughout the election cycle. “Active participation in these sessions will contribute significantly to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and fostering unity within the party,” he added.

The party views the January elections as a central part of its effort to build stronger units at the polling centre, ward, constituency and county levels. By rolling out civic education and setting out clear channels for resolving disputes, officials believe they can avoid clashes and ensure a smoother exercise when members go to the ballot.

UDA is encouraging its supporters in all 20 counties to make use of the sensitization programme before the polls.

The leadership says this will help members approach the grassroots elections with a better understanding of how the process works and what is expected of them.

Grassroots elections allow political parties to pick their officials at the most basic units and give ordinary members a chance to influence leadership decisions.

The party says the January vote will reinforce the idea that local members should drive decision-making and play an active part in shaping UDA’s direction.
