In Summary

High-altitude highways have been particularly affected by fog, while the persistent downpour has made road surfaces slick, increasing chances of skidding, braking problems, and vehicle control loss.

Kenyans have been urged to take extra care on roads as heavy rain and thick fog continue to affect many regions across the country.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) warned that these weather conditions are creating dangerous driving environments that could lead to accidents.

In a statement on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the authority said the rainfall and fog are reducing visibility and making roads slippery, putting drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians at risk.

“Ongoing heavy rainfall and foggy conditions are affecting some parts of the country, significantly heightening road risks due to reduced visibility and slippery surfaces. We strongly urge drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists to exercise extreme caution,” NTSA posted on X.

High-altitude highways have been particularly affected by fog, while the persistent downpour has made road surfaces slick, increasing chances of skidding, braking problems, and vehicle control loss.

The alert comes shortly after the Kenya Meteorological Department issued a weather advisory forecasting widespread rainfall across the country over 24 hours from the morning of December 28 to the morning of December 29, 2025. Residents living in flood-prone and low-lying areas were urged to stay alert.

According to the Met Department, the rains are expected to impact both rural and urban areas, disrupting travel, farming, and daily business activities. In cities like Nairobi, heavy showers can cause traffic jams, waterlogged streets, and difficulties for pedestrians, while rural communities risk damaged roads and flooded farmlands.

The advisory arrives during the festive season when many people are travelling, hosting gatherings, or spending time outdoors, making vigilance essential to prevent accidents. Authorities are calling on the public to monitor weather updates, plan journeys carefully, and follow road safety measures.
