Thousands of United Democratic Alliance members have already stepped forward to seek party tickets for the 2027 general election, signalling an early and crowded race within the ruling party. The high turnout cuts across all elective levels as UDA begins organising its nomination process well in advance of the polls.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the party has registered 9,165 aspirants so far. He explained that interest has been spread across the country, with aspirants lining up to contest for national, county and ward-level positions.
Figures released by the party show that 139 aspirants are aiming for the 47 governor seats, while 240 hopefuls have expressed interest in the 47 Senate positions. A further 274 party members are seeking nomination for the Women Representative seats across the counties.
At the National Assembly level, 1,205 aspirants are competing for the 290 constituencies. The bulk of registrations, however, has been recorded at the ward level, where 7,307 aspirants are targeting the 1,450 elected Member of County Assembly seats.
The Deputy President said the registration window remains open and will only close within the period set out in law, which is 90 days before the election date. He said the numbers point to growing confidence in the party as it prepares for the next general election.
“The exercise of registration of aspirants is continuous until the statutory limit of 90 days prior to the election date,” he said.
As part of the party’s early engagement with aspirants, UDA will convene its first Aspirants Forum on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, beginning at 8.00 am. The meeting will be chaired by President Ruto and will be held at State House.
“The first UDA Party Aspirants Forum takes place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 8.00 am. UDA Ni Faya si Faya?”
The forum will be organised under the guidance of the party’s National Election Board, which is overseeing preparations for the nomination exercise. The board is responsible for setting procedures, timelines and ways of addressing disputes as competition for party tickets intensifies.
UDA has also activated an online portal on its official website to allow aspirants to formally register for the forum. The move marks the party’s first structured step towards organising its internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
In addition, the party has rolled out non-refundable registration fees depending on the seat being pursued. Aspirants for Member of County Assembly positions are required to pay Sh2,000. Those seeking tickets for Member of the National Assembly, Woman Representative or Senator positions are required to pay Sh5,000, while those eyeing governor seats must pay Sh10,000.
“All qualified and interested party members who wish to contest for various elective seats in the 2027 General Election are hereby invited to register as members of the UDA Aspirants’ Forum,” read part of a notice issued by National Election Board chair Anthony Mwaura.
Payments are being made through M-Pesa using Paybill number 888092, with aspirants required to use their national identification number as the account reference. An alternative payment option is available through an Equity Bank account registered in the name of the United Democratic Alliance.
With the registration portal now active, the party has effectively opened the door to early political contestation, as it moves to organise internal competition and streamline its nomination process ahead of the next election cycle.
